Our department currently has a consultant neurologist and three visiting consultants from UHCW. 

The Neurology Department at George Eliot Hospital has expanded recently to support patients with Neurological disease and the number of people in Nuneaton, Bedworth, North Warwickshire and the local area living with Neurological Long-Term conditions. We work closely with our specialist colleagues in Neurosurgery, Neuro-Imaging, Neuro-Rehabilitation and Neurophysiology.
We provide primarily outpatient services. We also support inpatient ward referrals if required.

Neurologists diagnose, treat and manage disorders that affect the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves and muscles which activate movement and transmit sensation from all parts of the body to the brain
Illnesses, disorders, and injuries that involve the nervous system often require a neurologist’s management and treatment.

Symptoms that commonly require a neurologist include:

• coordination problems
• muscle weakness
• a change in sensation
• confusion
• dizziness
   

People who are having problems with their senses, such as touch, vision, or smell, may also need to see a neurologist. Problems with senses are sometimes caused by nervous system disorders.

Neurologists also see patients with:

• seizure disorders, such as epilepsy
• multiple sclerosis
• neuromuscular disorders, such as myasthenia gravis
• infections of the nervous system, including encephalitis, meningitis, or brain abscesses
• neurodegenerative disorders, such as Lou Gehrig’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease
• spinal cord disorders, including inflammatory and autoimmune disorders
• headaches, such as cluster headaches and migraines
