Volunteer Drivers.pngGeorge Eliot Hospital NHS Trust are working with Beeline Community Transport and Volunteer Friends to recruit compassionate and friendly volunteer drivers helping patients get to their appointments and also deliver equipment and resources to patients’ homes.

Here is what one of our volunteer drivers has to say about how he benefits from volunteering as a driver at George Eliot Hospital.

Since mid-2020 Frank has made hundreds of deliveries across Nuneaton and North West Warwickshire delivering vital medication to patients at their homes. Frank has been a volunteer driver for George Eliot since the pandemic meant he could no longer volunteer inside the hospital.

Here he tells is why he continue to provide this amazing service.

“I initially joined as a volunteer in the hospital after having a heart attack four years ago, after the care I was given, I wanted to help others and it was also a great way to stay active and go out and meet people.

“As with everyone the pandemic changed things and I was no longer able to support in the hospital safely so asked what else I can help with, that’s when I started driving and have not looked back since.

“I absolutely love this role; I am providing an essential service for people who can’t get out and pick up their own medication. It has kept me very busy and helped also active throughout the pandemic and I’m so proud to be able to keep helping other.

“The volunteer team make it super easy for me, just a phone call in the morning and I am on my way. If you have a few spare hours, I would really encourage people to get involved, its hugely rewarding and really makes a difference.”
