The finance team at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust are celebrating after clinching two prestigious healthcare finance awards for their innovation and collaborative approach.

The team scooped the Team of the Year and Innovation of the Year prizes as part of the HFMA West Midlands Healthcare Finance Awards programme.

The awards are a celebration of innovation and excellence in healthcare finance and governance. They recognise the fantastic work of finance teams from across the West Midlands in order to ensure we are able to continue to provide the best possible care for our patients.

The Team of the Year award was won by the Shared Financial Services for the Foundation Group, covering finance services at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, South Warwickshire University Foundation Trust, South Warwickshire Clinical Services Limited, Innovate Healthcare Services Limited and Wye Valley NHS Trust.

The winning team is made up of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Treasury Management and Finance Systems who were recognised for the improvements made over the last year.

This includes work to introduce VAT standardisation resulting in savings of £60k, the introduction of an email ticketing system to help manage c.4,500 queries from customers and suppliers, the launch of automated supplier statement reconciliations and automation of billing processes among many more other initiatives.

The coveted Innovation of the Year award was won as a result of the work done by finance managers in setting up employee panel reviews, that detailed employee strengths, development needs, training requirements, career aspirations and succession planning to ensure the service was able to grow and help staff thrive.

Speaking on the awards Haq Khan, Chief Finance Officer at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, commented: “I am very proud of the whole team for what they have achieved, not just in the past year, but long term to improve the service provided to our Trust and ultimately our patients.

“These awards are the rightful recognition of that hard work and diligence that has seen improvement in every aspect of our service.

“NHS financial management is an integral part of ensuring we are able to meet the needs of the community we serve, and everyone should be proud of the incredible impact of what they have achieved.”
