Dr Sukumaran Suganya (Obs and Gynae Consultant), Anneka Moore (Housekeeper), Lisa Taylor (COPD nurse), Abbie Le-Blancq (ANC Ward Manager), Samantha Jones (Domestic Assistant), Sean Grant (Sustainability Manager).jpgStaff in George Eliot Hospital’s maternity department have been awarded the winner of a sustainable healthcare competition in Coventry and Warwickshire.

They were presented with the award for their work on changing the booking processes for antenatal clinics, which showed potential savings of more than £60,000 per year and greenhouse gas emission savings equivalent to driving 12,000 miles in a car.

The award was collected by Abbie Le-Blancq, Ward Manager for the Antenatal Clinic and Maternity Assessment Unit, at a showcase event in Warwick on behalf of the rest of their project team, which included:

  • Emily Cornwall, Deputy Ops Manager in Maternity Services
  • Suganya Sukumaran, Lead Consultant of Obstetrics
  • Natasha Stringer, Head of Midwifery

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust proudly displayed three projects as part of the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare’s Green Team Competition.

Sam Jones, Domestic Assistant, and Anneka Moore, Housekeeper, presented their Tea Round project, which focused on internal processes and reducing waste, while Clinical Nurse Specialist Lisa Taylor’s Inhaler technique project looked at training and improving overall patient care.

The 10-week clinical leadership and engagement programme also involved projects from:

  • South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust: Theatres and Dermatology
  • University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust: Vascular Access and Critical Care
  • Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust: Paediatric Respiratory Physio

The Green Team Competition was a flagship sustainable leadership programme, facilitating frontline teams to receive mentoring and ultimately run their own sustainable quality improvement project.
