About the Walk and Talk Group
The popular patient walking group are open to any patients who have experienced cancer - weekly walks in Riversley Park, Nuneaton at 1.30pm every Tuesday.
These weekly walks allow patients with cancer or recovering from their illness to join specialist nurses and fellow patients to share their progress, experiences or to just talk in a relaxed setting with others.
During the pandemic the group had moved temporarily online to help those currently at home or isolating during the pandemic. However, they are planning to continue the virtual group on Wednesdays at 1.30pm, led by hospital volunteer lead for Walk and Talk, Mick Gilbert.
Macmillan Breast Care Nurse, Alison Syborn said: “Many friendships were made as a result of our walks and we managed to maintain contact with our regular walkers via the online sessions. We are excited to see the walks back but maintaining the online sessions to allow old and new friendships to flourish during these difficult times.”
Volunteer lead for Walk and Talk, Mick Gilbert said:
“Anyone interested in joining our new Wednesday virtual patient group meeting can contact me for further information.”
“Virtual meetings discuss a range of subjects related to cancer but also incorporate an element of lighter relief with a weekly quiz. The main focus is about staying in touch with others and engaging with other people in similar situations.”
George Eliot Hospital wants to encourage everyone who has experienced cancer to come along to the social distancing walks. Friends and family are also very welcome to join the walks or virtual meeting sessions.
Mick Gilbert can be contacted by telephone/text on 07584676145 or email mick.
The walks start outside the Nuneaton Museum coffee shop in Riversley Park.
